BIO

Singer-songwriter, vocalist, and musician, Donna grew up on Prince Street in Greenwich Village, New York City, in a musical family; mother Maxine a singer, actress, playwright and composer; father Johnny Smash a singer, tap dancer, drummer and friend/singing partner of Frank Sinatra. After working in New York and L.A. acting in soap operas, episodic television, film and theatre, Donna settled on her first love, singing.

Donna has performed extensively on four continents and has sung with numerous artists such as Maxine Nightingale (Right Back Where We Started From, Lead Me On), The Shangri-Las (Leader of the Pack),
Joe Sample, Enya, Garth Brooks and more, appearing on the Grammy Awards, Rosie O'Donnell and Late Night with David Letterman. You can hear her voice on recordings, commercials and numerous voiceovers. Donna has performed extensively on four continents, throughout North and South America, Europe and Africa for the royal family of Morocco taking a 17 piece version of her band, Straight Ahead, (www.straightaheadtheband.com) to perform at the royal palace in Rabat.

Donna performs most often in New York and recently began performing in the Orlando area of Florida. Recent European performances include Belgium and Greece, where she lives part of the year with husband, Ken Richards, an accomplished artist, musician, singer-songwriter (artistkenrichards.com).
In addition to traveling and mothering feline son Sneakers, Donna earned her Masters level degree in 2003 with academic honors. Donna's musical influences include Sarah Vaughn, Frank Sinatra, The Police, Annie Lenox, John Denver, Jonatha Brooke, Astrud Gilberto, Etta James, James Taylor, Bonnie Raitt, The Beatles, Steely Dan & more.

Donna has just released her first original CD entitled "After Dark."
